This site is a blog on how I am going about making a poker strategy website. My intention is to create it in WordPress, just like I am doing with this blog. I may do even more poker strategy websites in the future, if so I will blog how I go about creating them also.

Why am I creating poker strategy sites then?

For a number of reasons really.

  • Many years of experience of playing poker online: I have been playing poker online for many years now, if I recall correctly I first dabbled in online poker back in about 2001, before it ever became as huge as it is today. Suffice to say I have been on the online poker scene for quite some time, but I’ll get back to that some other time.
  • Not totally new to me: A number of years ago I created a moderately successful online poker information site www.firbolg.com (I don’t work on this much anymore, though one day I hope to redesign this site), so it’s not a totally new area to me.
  • Diverting my frustrations in a positive way: Since the summer of 2007 I have been a full-time poker professional and this was going superbly well until I hit my biggest ever downswing. It’s pretty much lasted since the start of October 2008, right up to now March 13th 2009 (hopefully this seemingly never-ending bad run ends here too, forgive me for not holding my breath!). In the past I have done some freelance poker writing and also was employed as a writer for the largest online poker site in the world Pokerstars. Now when poker is running so bad for me, which inevitably happens, even to the best of players, from time to time. I reasoned it would make sense to divert some of my energies, and at the same time lessen my current frustration as a professional poker player, by creating some interesting online poker websites.
  • Most online poker strategy sites suck: Although there is a multitude of poker strategy sites out there, good god, most of them quite frankly, er suck. Specifically I took a look on google.com for the words poker strategy. Browsing through a number of the highest ranking sites it’s eye-opening to see so many of them have messy, non-user friendly designs, and the content is often frankly so full of BS. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these guys who write this guff have not even played on some of the poker sites they recommend. It appears that the main priority of these sites is to score high in search engine rankings (which they obviously have succeeded in doing) rather than creating a great poker strategy site. So I figure, maybe I can’t do a site that gets as many hits as these seo guys, and who knows, maybe my sites will be awful too, but at least they won’t be awful in the same way, and at least I actually will know what I’m talking about and won’t mislead (knowingly or unknowingly) my users. Saying that I hope my poker strategy sites will at least be semi-decent and hopefully will develop regular happy visitors.

And why the blog?

  • Self-Help reason: Well, I feel it will help me work my way through developing these sites for one thing.
  • Originality: So many poker players, both fun players, pro players and general poker enthusiasts either have their own poker blog or else their own dedicated poker information site. However I can’t imagine there will be many (hopefully not any, but it’s hard to be the first to do anything new these days in the online world, so I guess, maybe I’m not the first) to do a blog from start to finish on how a poker strategy site gets created, so hopefully this will be an interesting blog on the ups and downs, things done right and things done wrong during the creation and development of a poker strategy site. Perhaps other poker players who wish to do a poker strategy site of their own, will learn a little something from this blog even if it is just from my mistakes (hopefully not of course).
